而1981年時哈佛學者G E Vaillant等人在投稿於美國精神醫學期刊上的論文則有類似看法，其針對456位工人階級家庭的男童，從14-47歲間定期進行調查，發現兒童時期的工作能力(包含持續進行家務、定期兼職、參與課外社團等)可以作為預測成年後心理健康與職業成就等的預測指標。
